For years, the Bedford Central School District has neglected their property on Gregory Avenue. The property is unsightly with years of leaves, fallen branches and garbage left on the property.
In 2003, the Bedford Central School District tried to sell this 160-foot by 100-foot property to the highest bidder without regard to the bidder’s plans for the property. As a result, the sale of the property was not finalized because the chosen developer could not get approval to build multiple two-family homes on the lot because of the lot’s small size and steep slopes.
The best idea for the Bedford Central School District, the Village of Mount Kisco and the Gregory Avenue residents would be to work together. The Village of Mount Kisco could purchase a conservation easement from the Bedford Central School District, giving both entities an interest in the land. Afterwards, the village, the school district and the Gregory Avenue residents could work to clean up the lot and create an entrance to the Mount Kisco Elementary School. This entrance would provide MKES school children that live on Gregory Avenue a safer and shorter route to school.

The holiday season is for giving and the New York Blood Center needs blood donations. To further help the community, the Mount Kisco Volunteer Fire Department will be hosting a blood drive on Wednesday, December 30 from 4:00 to 8:30. If you have any questions. or to make an appointment, please send an e-mail to information@hooks14.com.
One of the features of this information source is the ability to quickly access links related to Mount Kisco services and information. We have added a link for The Examiner newspaper. Since The Examiner archives its newspapers, it is a good resource for researching items of interest.
For the holiday season, the Mount Kisco Village Board has waived all parking fees in Shoppers’ Park and in other locations in Mount Kisco. As a result, shoppers do not have to feed the meter. After the holiday season, however, shoppers will still not feed the meter but pay stations in Shoppers’ Park. The pay stations, pictured below, will be placed in several strategic locations in Shoppers’ Park and will save the village the expense of emptying and maintaining several hundred meters. The pay stations will accept dollars as well as silver coins. Evenually, the pay stations will accept credit cards.

Two notices were sent out by the Bedford Central School District. At 8:30 this morning, the Bedford Police contacted Dr. Adelberg, Principal of FLHS, and reported that an internet conversation was intercepted indicating a potential threat to the FLHS. Bedford Police are on site and the high school and district emergency response teams have met and decided to dismiss students as soon a is possible. At this time the Fox Lane High School and Fox Lane Middle School are on lock out mode - that means that no one can come in or out and all students are safe.
For Fox Lane High School students:
The school district intends to dismiss Fox Lane High School students at 10:45 and get them home by bus. High School Students who drive will be dismissed after the busses depart.
For Fox Lane Middle School students:
The Fox Lane Middle School will remain on lock out mode and complete their school day. Please do not come to the Fox Lane Campus as you will be turned away. Your presence will interfere with our ability to do a dismissal.

For residents that receive the Village’s email alerts, an alert was sent out before 8:00 this morning informing residents that the library was closed. After an inquiry to the Village Manager, it was explained that it was the policy of the Library Board of Trustees to close the library whenever the Bedford Central Schools are closed.
In my opinion, this is not a good policy. Comparing the Bedford Central School District with the Mount Kisco Library is a flawed comparison. For instance, some of the Bedford Central School District buildings need to be open at 7:00 am. The Mount Kisco Public Library does not open until 10:00 am. At 10:00 today, the scheduled opening time of the library, it is 40 degrees, it is raining and the roads are clear. Further, the decision to close the schools is based on transporting thousands of children on buses at the opening time. Library patrons come to the library by their own means throughout the day.
A sampling of the surrounding libraries show that more libraries are open than closed. The libraries are open in Chappaqua, Armonk and Yorktown. Somers Library will open on a two hour delay. Libraries in Bedford and Ossining are closed.
There is a greater need for the Mount Kisco Public Library to be open when school is closed and many parents will be looking for the library today. The Mount Kisco Library should be open. The decision to close the library is not up to the Village Manager or Village Board but the Library Board of Trustees. The Library Board of Trustees should reconsider its policy.
Mayor Cindrich and the Board of Trustees announced the Village’s Holiday Parking Program will run from December 8 through December 31. Visitors will be able park free for 1 hour in a one hour meter, 2 hours in a two hour meter and 4 hours free in a four hour meter. 12 hour metered spaces will NOT be included in this holiday program.
During the Holiday Parking Program, the meters will be removed from Shopper’s Park (the parking lot behind the North Moger stores) and pay stations will be put in. The pay station system will prevent many of the problems that parkers have with the meters and will save the village from collecting money and maintaining hundreds of meters. The pay station system to be installed by the village has been successfully used in White Plains for years.
The Mount Kisco Village Board will have its regularly scheduled meeting tonight at 7:30 which will include the annual organizational meeting.
