Mount Kisco Mistakenly Rated #17 by Westchester Magazine

In the recent edition of Westchester Magazine, the magazine rated the best places to live in Westchester county. Mount Kisco was rated #17 out of 40 communities.

While the ratings are based on variety of subjective categories that are subjectively weighted, the magazine made an obvious objective mistake in concluding that Mount Kisco’s property taxes are “among the highest in the county: $21,350 on average.” This is incorrect. With the large commercial tax base and the current budgeting policies in Mount Kisco, Mount Kisco property taxes are among the lowest in the county.

Some have speculated that they used the 10549 zip code, which includes portions of Bedford. Nevertheless, if the property taxes were correctly calculated, Mount Kisco would have been in the top five communities with Irvington, Dobbs Ferry and Hastings, which benefit in the rankings from their proximity to water and proximity to New York City.
