The Mount Kisco Maroons won the Scarsdale Recreation Youth Football League on Sunday night under the lights at White Plains High School with a 28-8 victory over the Pelham Pelicans. The Maroons, made up of fifth and sixth graders, went into the championship game without allowing an opponent to score a single point.
In the championship game, the offense did not click immediately and the Maroons trailed 8-0. With a strong defense and four touchdowns by Mount Kisco’s Jayden Cruz, the Maroons pulled away and never looked back.
In addition to playing well and winning the championship in 2012, the players developed their football skills and sportsmanship. The Maroons were coached by Stanley Greene and Mike McLoughlin and a staff that includes Tom Jobin, James Brooks, Ken Oliveri, Jay Etzel, Leon Suetter, Kevin O’Shea and Brian Sullivan.
