Bedford Central School District voters approved $116.5 million budget proposal plan by a vote of 2,300 to 1,514 today or an overwhelming 60% to 40% margin. In the only competitive race for the school board, Jennifer Gerken received more votes than Michael Solomon. Gerken received 1,803 votes for Solomon received 1,516 votes.
Mount Kisco resident Suzanne Grant and Pound Ridge resident won uncontested bids.
In the Bedford Central School District, candidates run for specific seats instead of at large as nearly every other school district does. This system is a carryover from when each elementary school district had its own “unofficial” seat. I know that the Board of Education has many items on its plate but a switch to a more equitable election system where the top vote recipients of all running would be in the best interests of the voters.
