Fire on Maple Ave Damages Home; Fourth Recent Fire on Street

The Mount Kisco Fire Department was again called into action on Saturday to extinguish another fire on Maple Avenue.  Despite the swift and thorough response of the MKFD, the home at 86 Maple Avenue appears to be inhabitable.  The cause has yet to be determined.

This is the fourth fire on Maple Avenue in just over two years. On April 15, 2010, there was a fire at 50 Maple Avenue.  In November 2009, there was a fire in a closet in a second floor apartment at 14 Maple Avenue. In 2008, there was a fire at 90 Maple Avenue caused by overcrowding and substandard electrical conditions.

Even though every owner of rental property is required to register such property with the Building Department, I could not find this multi-family property on a Landlord Registry supplied to by the Village of Mount Kisco on November 18, 2010.  This means that the property may not have received any specified safety inspections.  Of course, there is very little code enforcement in Mount Kisco because Mayor Cindrich, Deputy Mayor George Griffin and Trustee Anthony Markus all voted for a budget without a code enforcement officer and without any other enforcement initiatives.
