National Mens Clothing Chain Coming to Main Street

East Main Street between South Moger Avenue and North Bedford Road has been going through a period of turnover. Katie Mac’s, a new sports bar and restaurant has replaced O’Malley’s. Smokers Harbor, an existing cigar store has new owners.

The biggest news, however, is that national men’s clothing chain Jos. A. Bank will be moving to East Main Street, filling a void in Mount Kisco. Finally, a place to buy a pair of men’s pants in Mount Kisco and start to balance out the inequity created by Victoria Secret, Ann Taylor and Chico’s.

The Jos. A. Bank store will have access to Shopper’s Park parking and may cause additional congestion. One question that will be researched by mountkisconews.com is the effect on chain stores and whether or not they are supporting our community. For instance, Mount Kisco’s Little League is sponsored by local companies such as Bellizzi’s and Whalen’s Moving and Storage, not The Gap or Banana Republic.

The tax benefit of adding large national stores is not as great as most imagine since Mount Kisco does not get to keep the additional sales taxes generated by these stores. The sales tax receipts are sent to Westchester County and it is then divided between the towns.

It’s great to see empty storefronts being finally filled! Mount Kisco has always been a terrific town for shopping for the ladies but now the men will have extra choices too.

  2. Janet says:

I hope that with the opening of this major chain, it will bring much needed shoppers to Main Street and to the merchants that so desperately need support.
